happy boys at the park

i'm loving this beautiful melbourne weather atm, and the boys look like they're enjoying it too!

didn't get out for our regular 2nd walk yesterday afternoon and jimmy's cough was back this morning. have realised that he really needs his 2 gentle walks a day to keep his heart happy and healthy and to keep the heart cough under control.

while he's sniffing around slowly and going for the occasional run, cairo's chasing his ball....or the trains, birds, bikes...... bruce is running around sniffing and searching for food, while i'm walking around enjoying the sunshine or walking/standing around and chatting with the other lovely people who are out with their dogs :-)

what a wonderful time of year!

rolling around on something delightful, most likely a worm or some bird droppings.......nice!

just wondering around savouring all the olfactory treats on offer

always waiting patiently for the ball........unless he's tired of being patient and decides to bark and let you know he's ready to play

Borg's Blog Dog Bikkies

Have a bit of free time today so just bakd some yummy treats for the boys. I know they're yummy because I actually tried them.........delicious!

Due to Cairo's tendency to get itchy if he eats too many oxalates (eg. oats, carrots, soy, whole wheat), I always modify recipes to reduce the oxalate content. You can use rolled oats and wholemeal flour if that's what you have in the pantry.

Bon appetit les chiens!

BORG’S BLOG DOG BIKKIES
Store in fridge or freezer and just keep out a small container-full at a time as these can go mouldy if left at room temperature for very long.

©      1 cup mixed rolled barley, oat and rice flakes
©      1/3 cup vegetable or olive oil
©      1 cup boiling water
©      3/4 cup cornmeal
©      1 tablespoon sugar
©      2 teaspoons vegetable, chicken or beef instant stock powder
©      1/2 cup rice milk or low fat cow’s milk
©      1/2 cup grated low fat fetta
©      ½ cup grated low fat cheddar cheese
©      1 egg, beaten
©      2 cups white or wholemeal flour

Preheat oven to 160C degrees. Spray baking paper sheets with oil spray.

In large bowl combine rice, barley and oat flakes, oil and hot water; let stand, covered for 10 minutes.

Stir in cornmeal, sugar, stock powder, milk, cheese and egg. Mix well. Add flour 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each cup till a stiff dough forms.

On floured surface, knead in remaining flour until dough is smooth and no longer sticky.

Roll or pat out dough to just under 1cm thickness; cut with a cookie cutter. I usually make 3 trays worth – about 60 biscuits – then roll out 1cm diameter rolls and chop up into1cm little biscuits to put in the dogs’ ‘kong’ treats or to sprinkle occasionally on their food. These only take about 10-15 mins to bake.

Place biscuits about 1cm apart on baking sheets and bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown.

Cool completely. Store loosely covered.

just another perfect day

Our latest little foster boy Jimmy has settled in so well and feels like he's here to stay.

The changes in him have been phenomenal - he's now running after Cairo at the park, playing with toys and balls at home, he's becoming more and more affectionate with me and not so wary of strangers. Bruce and he don't pay each other much attention, but lately I've even noticed Bruce wagging his tail when Jimmy has come near.

After waking up and looking at the clock this morning, thinking it was 7.30, I decided to meditate a bit earlier than normal, then had a play with the boys before looking at the clock again and realising it was actually not even 7.30 yet!!! A rude shock for someone like me who is used to starting the day around 9ish.

Took advantage of the early start to have a walk in the park with mum and dad - the dogs love it, especially Cairo who lurves having new friends to play with.

keenly awaiting the ball toss

little chap lurves young buck

half way round the block, i decided we'd walk all the way to the park........only got rained on for about 5 minutes, and had a great time at the park.

cairo - aka young buck - got to chase and play with his favourite dog, fame and fame's chuck-it; bruce - aka fluffy soft - also chased fame, but mainly barked at him ....... and at nearly everything else!; and jimmy - aka little chap - got to take his time sniffing every tree and blade of grass.

i thought jimmy would be tired on the way home, so i tried to carry him, but he wanted to trot along beside his mates all the way.

jimmy follows cairo around a lot, wagging his tail and wanting to play, or just hangs around watching him

sun and hail

after over 24 hours of non-stop rain and a hail storm this morning, the boys and i left the house in sunshine at 10.15am and were caught in a hail shower just before getting home at 10.30 - gotta love melbourne weather!
